PORCELAIN VENEERS

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth-coloured porcelain that are designed to cover the front surface of teeth. They are used to improve the appearance of teeth by addressing cosmetic issues such as:

• Stains or discolouration that doesn’t respond to whitening treatments.

• Small chips or cracks that affect the look of your teeth.

• Slightly crooked teeth or gaps between teeth that you want to close.

• Teeth that are too small or misshapen.

Porcelain is a popular material for veneers because it closely mimics the natural look of tooth enamel. It's also durable, stain-resistant, and can last for many years with proper care.

Consultation and Planning

1

You will have your first appointment with Dr Anthony Barnes. He will assess your teeth and suitability for Composite bonding treatment. Clinical assessment, photographs, x-rays and a 3D scan using the latest digital technology will be carried out.

Anthony will discuss your treatment needs and goals and advise if additional treatment or alternatives may be more suitable for your smile.

Design Process

2

If you are suitable for treatment, Dr Anthony Barnes will create your bespoke smile design either using a digitally planned smile design (DSD) based on your discussions during the consultation stage.

This will be transferred as a mock-up into your mouth directly to show you how your newly designed bespoke smile will appear. At this stage any changes can be made.

Preparation

3

A small amount of tooth structure is removed typically from the front surface of the tooth to make room for the veneer. In some cases, no tooth structure will need to be removed.

Dr Anthony Barnes will keep this to a minimum using minimally invasive dental techniques. Once this has been achieved; a 3D scan will be carried out of the newly adjusted teeth. This will be used for our experienced lab technicians to create your veneers.

Temporary Veneers

While the permanent veneers are being made, temporary veneers will be provided to protect your teeth.

4

Bonding

Once your porcelain veneers are ready, you will return for Dr Anthony Barnes to bond them in place. Firstly he will try them on, make any adjustments, and then bond them to your teeth using a strong adhesive.

5

Final Check

Anthony will ensure that the veneers fit comfortably, function well, and match the natural colour of your teeth. An adjustment/polish/review appointment is normally required following placement.

Why Porcelain Veneers?

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers:

• Veneers can give you a flawless smile, often transforming the appearance of your teeth.

• Porcelain is strong and can last 10-15 years with proper care.

• Porcelain doesn’t stain as easily as natural tooth enamel.

• Unlike crowns, veneers require only a small amount of tooth structure to be removed.

Drawbacks to Consider:

• Since some enamel is removed, getting veneers is a permanent change to your teeth.

• Although porcelain is durable, veneers can chip or crack if exposed to heavy forces, like biting hard objects. However, stronger than other alternative options such as Composite bonding.

Porcelain veneers are a popular option for people seeking a beautiful, long-lasting smile makeover, especially when other options like teeth whitening or orthodontics might not be suitable.
